Name the difficult task

A broad goal such as getting better at a subject is hard to act on. Identify a concrete task: interpreting a question, explaining a concept, analysing evidence, or organising a written response.

Bring the right context

Tell your tutor the subject and level, what your class is studying, and which part of the work is causing difficulty. Your current materials help make the conversation specific.

Protect independent thinking

Tuition should help you understand and develop your own work. Ask for explanations, feedback on reasoning, and practice tasks. Keep authorship and academic integrity at the centre of the arrangement.

Leave room to practise

A useful explanation needs follow-up. Set aside a short period between lessons to attempt the same type of task independently and bring any remaining questions to the next session.
